Caisleain Nua Thiar Gaa Club was founded in 1897.The early years seemed to have been Lean years as Newcastlewest did not emerge until 1908 where we reach the county Senior final with Killmallock losing 2-08 to 0-3. The Newcastle west Footballers were still playing senior football through the 1900’s through to 1928 where records show us that Glin beats us in the west final of that year 0-12 to 0-01.

It seems that we had an aspucious beginning as a Hurling club with no success prior to WW1 as from 1917 to 1933 , Newcastle are a force to be reckoned with winning numerous west and contesting 7 senior county finals during this period winning in 1917 Vs Youn Irelands(3-4 to 3-1) and 1925 Vs Bruff(3-2 to 1-2). The 1918 decider Vs Claughan was not played and we played second fiddle to Young Irelands in 1920 (5-4 to 1-1), Claughan in 1926 1-4 to 5-3), Young Irelands again in 1930 (2-2 to 1-4) and 1932 (1-3 to 2-6). It looks like or golden age in top flight Hurling ended in 1932. The late 1930’s emerged again with success for our minor Hurlers winning a first county title in that grade beatin Claughan 7-5 to m0-1, and we reclained the County Junior Football title in 1938 beating Kilmallock 0-4 to 0-3.

The 1940’s began well winning a West minor hurling title but losing the county final to Ahane(6-1to 3-1), This title along with a West Junior Football title in 1945 being our only successes on the GAA Field until 1949 when another minor Hurling team giving huge optimisin for the 1950’s.

Emigration put paid to this but the 1950’s will be noted for many success in the west in minor hurling and football and junior football. The major success of the 1950’s was the aquisiton and development of the present field in the Demense

The 1960’s start very well with success in Conty junior final beating Monaleen 2-2 to 2-0, we continusd this success on the football field with a win the West minor in 1962 beating Abbeyfeale 3-5 to 2-7 and in 1965 winning the U21 beating Glin 2-3 to 0-4, and a fourth Conty junior football title in 1966 beating St Patricks 1-12 to 1-5. Progress was also made in the game of hurling during the 1960’s winning west minor titles in 1960,61 and 65.

The 1970’s are a hive of activity within the club wher for the first time Bord Na Nog emerges catering for U16 down, The other notable achievement of the decade is a county U21 football championship win in 1975 beating Na Piarsaigh 1-6 to 1-5. Newcastle also won west Senior Football titles in 19071 and 1972 beatting Glin and Askeaton respectively. The senior footballers lost the County senior fotball title in 1972 to askeaton. The fruits of the work done by people in the 1970’s too numerous to mention bears fruit in the 1980’s.

In the 1980’s the club enjoy’s huge success on both the hurling and football field with many dual stars emerging. These players won a number of county titles, Minor Hurling in 1982,Minoir football in 80,83,U21 hurling in 85,U21 football in 80,81,83,84 and 87 also the Senior county football was won in 1987. The 1980 also showed huge
success in our juvenile section.

After the success of the 1980’s there is a lull, Hurling declines and we go from senior to junior, Football remains strong and we wen a second county Football title in 1992 alson with a number of west championships. The hurling decline is addressed through winning a number of juvenile county’s through the 90’s in all age groups.

This underage success give great appetite for the new millienium and we begin in 2001 with a county junior hurling win. Again We experience huge success at under age level through the 2000’s but on the adult front a county
Intermediate Football final win in 2006 after being relagated in 2005 and a county senior football appearance in 2004 is what we have to show. Through the late 2000’s success in minor hurling and football along with U21 football agurs well for the future.
